Motion to approve April minutes made by John Doviak; seconded by Gus Janszen. Motion approved.
Additions to the agenda: none
New Business:
A. Sandra Murphy, Gorman Heritage Farm
· Education classes have expanded from three days a week to five per week.
· Summer camp registration numbers are ahead of last year.
· Americorp kids were in this spring and accomplished quite a few projects. GE had approximately forty people help come do work this spring ; and another GE group will be over during the summer.
· Rain has hampered the planting of field crops and grass cutting. Newly installed raised beds have helped save a few crops.
· Three access gates will be added to the fence line near the Kingsport entrance area. The farm’s Five Year Master Plan is being worked on; a village maintained trail will be part of this plan.
· During April, the farm celebrated Farm Babies Month. Special events were held on Saturdays to spotlight the various new farm babies. The sheep shearer was not available this year, so no Shear Fest was held. The mules were in the Red’s Opening Day parade and made special trips around the neighborhood during the Farm Babies’ programs.
· Future events include the Sunflower Festival, Pumpkin Patch events, and Row By Row Dinner.
· The farm is looking to form a “handy man” group on Thursdays to work on various projects around the farm. Students from Scarlet Oaks are currently working on building a shed near the covered picnic area for storage of tables and chairs.
· Good Job, and thank you for taking the time to meet with commission was extended to Sandra by Commission members.
B. Michele is unable to meet with us this month.
· But, Michele did tell David that Wyoming and Woodlawn have joined the CACC group. Both communities will be attending the next CACC meeting at the end of this month. Woodlawn is in the process for grant funds to connect to the Wyoming trail system.
· David will invite Michele to the June meeting.
Old Business:
A. Evendale Bike Plan Update
· Considering dates for an input meeting in August between Princeton’s back to school date and Labor Day.
· Public Meeting will be held late fall; and a Master Plan developed by year’s end. As part of The Plan, a priority list of projects needs to be established.
B. Lifestyle Essentials’ Monthly Report
As noted in the packets
Director’s Report:
· Council has released funds to purchase new treadmills. David hopes to have these in by the end of June. At this time, five treadmills will be purchased; hopefully this will allow more space for the free weight area.
· The resolution to adopt the fee guidelines had its first reading at the last council meeting. David does not foresee any significant fee increases.
· Just like at the farm, the weather has been causing issues at the pool. The trellises have all been power-washed; but only one is completely re-stained. Hopefully, a second will be completed by the end of next week; but the rest may have to wait until the end of the season. Thankfully, the pool was painted last fall, otherwise it would not have been painted until the end of the 2011 season. The leak, which was pin-pointed at the end of last season, will have to wait for repair until this fall because of the spring rains. Cary Belyea will have the Swim Safe staff turn off the (SCS) valve each
night which, hopefully, will conserve a significant amount of water.
· The boiler was tested last week; it will be turned on tomorrow so the pool water can warm before swim team begins practice on Monday.
· On June 13th, Adult Morning Lap swim will begin. This program operates Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings beginning at 6:00a.m.
· Lauren will be manager this year. Craig Gorsuch, Mark Gottschlich and David Simon are the assistant managers. Most guards from last year have returned.
· The Fun in the Sun staff, tennis staff, and swim team coaches are all hired.
· Current census data shows Evendale’s population dropped 10% between 2000 and 2010. We have accepted a few non-residents onto our tennis and swim teams. Those children live in communities that do not operate these types of programs. We have accepted children into our soccer and basketball programs in the past in order to field a team, and for our kids to play.
· Princeton is ending their before and after school program. An Evendale parent has approached the department with a request to create a program for Evendale kids here at the center. A Princeton bus would pick up kids for school in the morning then drop them off at the center after school. Currently, approximately forty children, ages 4-12 years, use the program at school.
· Pamela Meyers requested the June meeting be pushed back two weeks to June 30th because she would be out of town. However, three other members will not be available for June 30th; therefore, the meeting will be on June 16th.
Phi Lambda Pi Report:
· Sadly, the annual trip to Myrtle Beach has been cancelled because of lack of pre-registration (there are a lot of younger members, and parents maybe reluctant to send the young child so far away). A trip to Lake Erie and Cedar Point will happen instead.
· The concession stand opens with five new people on the staffing list this year.
· Griffin Preserve Clean Up day is Saturday; and Phi will have representatives there to help as usual.
Open Discussion:
· Soccer Field #3 is in bad shape between the drought last year and the rains this springs. The department may want to consider shutting field three off for a season or year for restoration.
· Basketball and soccer uniform replacement are being researched as Council has released some funds to replace the current ones which are very tattered.
